Experimental and numerical investigation of residual stresses in proximity girth welds

چکیده

Abstract International fabrication codes and standards provide minimum distance criteria for proximity welds, although rigorous justification is lacking. These distances are either based on practical experience or mutual agreement often left to the engineering judgment of contractors, inspection engineers, etc., especially in cases repair welds fabricated existing welds. Previous studies have shown high tensile residual stresses altered mechanical microstructural properties between This article focuses numerical experimental quantification region by X-ray diffraction (XRD) finite element method (FEM) thermo-mechanical models. Specimens were machine welded, then welded at 5–15 mm. A fair results was achieved FEM XRD. The most detrimental effect observed weld root toe 5 mm proximity, likely due constraint multiaxial stress state. findings enable practitioners propose technical corrective actions while specifying

Experimental Study of the Residual Stresses in Girth Weld of Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline

In order to achieve integrated condition in the girth welding of high pressure natural gas transmission pipelines, the weld zones and its surrounding area should have good mechanical properties. Residual stresses are an important defect especially in the girth welding of the pipeline. In this study, two API X70 steel pipes (with spiral seam weld) of 56 inches outside diameter and 0.780 inch wal...

Finite Element Modeling of Austenitic Stainless Steel Residual Stresses Pipe Girth Welds

Three-dimensional finite element modeling of residual stresses in a girth-welded pipe is presented in this paper, with an emphasis on modeling procedures for the global residual stress characteristics. The shell element model with a heat source moving along the circumferential joint is demonstrated to be cost effective and capable of predicting the global residual stress features. Transient res...

experimental determination of residual stresses in multi-pass girth welding of thermo-mechanical steel pipe

in this paper, two api x70 steel pipes (with spiral seam weld) of 56 inch outside diameter and 0.780 inch wall thickness were girth welded first. next, hole drilling tests were conducted for strain measurement on the surfaces of the pipes. the values of residual stresses on the internal and external surfaces of the pipe were determined, from strain data using astm 837 standard. the experimental...

experimental and numerical study of through thickness residual stresses distribution in sheet metals produced by ecar

abstract: the equal channel angular rolling (ecar) is one of the severe plastic deformation processes, which can develop a shear deformation into a sheet metal. in this process, internal stresses are created due to the different strain levels experienced in different locations at the same time. the incremental hole drilling method is an effective technique for the evaluation of the through-thic...
